Produce More Than You Consume
I want to produce much more than I consume.
Act of producing brings to my life more joy, feeling of satisfaction and meaning.
Also you simply cannot learn how to ride a bike if you only read about it or watch others riding bike. You need to go out and try yourself. And even fail once or twice. It works the same with almost anything. Even if you learn things like a physics behind riding the bike or the history of biking - you still will be much worse in riding the bike than a person who just practiced the damn thing.
Consuming is super addictive. Like eating sweets or watching TV series. Whenever you try to break it - something whispers to the ear: it’s just the last one time. And it never is.
Consuming is easy to start and hard to stop. You just click a button and Netflix opens up - and when you want to finish - it’s that easy! Especially if it’s online game that you cannot stop (if you don’t want to lose points!) or TV serie with 10 seasons, 20 episodes each.
Producing on the other hand is pretty hard. First, you need to have an idea what to do. Then if you have some ideas you need to pick what is the most interesting/valuable thing to do (FOMO is real!). Once you have it, act of producing itself is more demanding. Let’s say you decide to create a business. There is countless ways of going from A to B. Your self criticism kicks in. Also, when you’re doing something you expose yourself for criticism. It’s much less comfortable than sitting in the chair, watching youtube and criticize others, isn’t it?
I prefer to be a producer rather than consumer. It just feels better. My perspective on that is that with every thing produced I can produce more and better, so every next thing is easier to do.
For example, swimming is some kind of producing (output is better shape of my body). Whenever I start out after a longer break, it’s super hard to go for the swimming pool for the first time. But every next time is simpler. After few weeks of regular training it feels almost like on autopilot.
Also, producing things is super valuable, consuming is not. People are wired in a way that it’s easier to consume things. However, if we all were consuming more than producing, there would be nothing to consume.
Let’s put some effort do something cool today!
